Centering Prayer  On the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month, from 12 noon-1:00 pm, a group of people meet in the LOL Sanctuary to explore how God moves through prayer. Tom Koop, who facilitates the time, said something like: “I could’ve stayed at work banging my head against the wall as deadlines approach or I could take time to center in God for the lunch hour. I am always refreshed by God’s presence when I choose to do the latter.” This hour of prayer is not for those who have prayer all figured out and who know what to say, but for those who want to learn, grow, stretch and discover God at work in surprising ways. A portion of the time is spent caring for one another, reading psalms, in silence, praying for others and talking about what works for us in prayer.
Habitat for Humanity There’s a build going on now! Contact Karin Jensen at 829-3658 or jensen56473@netzero.net for dates and times.
BLAIHN
(Brainerd Lakes Area Interfaith Hospitality Network)
A group of 13 lakes area churches to provide housing temporarily for homeless families with children with the assistance of other support churches. Each congregation takes one week every six months in which they house and provide meals (breakfast, bag lunch and warm supper) for the homeless families in our area. IHN is a national organization started by a compassionate mom and her son on the east coast. Lord of Life is the partner church to host church, Lutheran Church of the Cross, Nisswa. We will need volunteers from our congregation to help LCC provide, serve and share meals each week they are a host. The organization has a house available for the Day Center located at 714 6th St., centrally located in downtown Brainerd, close to schools and YMCA. The Day Center helps families locate jobs, housing and shelter during the day. This house is owned by the Brainerd School District and has been used by them for extra office space up to a year ago. The BLAIHN does not need to purchase it nor will they have to pay rent. Their costs will be utilities and phone service. It needs some renovation work to make it functional for the needs of the organization and handicap compliant. They will be looking for volunteers with builder/carpentry skills as well electrical and plumbing skills, or just generally very handy in these areas. Also, if anyone has any connection to businesses such as Home Depot, Menards or Fleet Farm, where the Brainerd Lakes Area IHN might be able to get a discount or donations of materials, it would be most helpful. As needs arise and dates for the need of volunteers, LOL congregation will be notified. With God’s help, and the support of the committed congregations, the BLAIHN is looking to be up and running no later than May and hopefully by April. To volunteer e-mail Sandy Bergstrom at bergstrom@charter.net or call 828-7740.

They are given to friends who are chronically ill, isolated or homebound, people who have cancer, or who are coping with grief and loss, or simply having stressful times. Many prayers and blessings are knit into every shawl. The LOL Prayer Shawl group meets on the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. for a chance to select the recipient of the shawl, pray for the recipient, and build relationships with one another. Knitting and/or crocheting lessons will be available for anyone who wants to learn!  If you would like more information, please call Leone Johnson (828-4126) or Jeannine zumBrunnen (829-2177).
